As we wrap up another incredible curling season at the Markdale Golf and Curling Club, we want to take a moment to reflect on the success, growth, and enthusiasm that made this year one to remember. From welcoming new curlers to hosting exciting events, our club has been bustling with energy on and off the ice!
Season Highlights
Learn to Curl Program
This year, we introduced another four-week Learn to Curl program, which saw a fantastic turnout of new curlers eager to get on the ice. Whether they were first-timers or looking to refine their skills, participants gained confidence with each session, and many have now joined our regular leagues!
Specialized Curling Clinics
We were fortunate to host a specialized curling clinic led by Maurice Wilson, an expert coach with decades of experience. Participants had the opportunity to enhance their skills in Hack Delivery and Stick Delivery, learning from one of the best.
Ruby Jubilee Bonspiel
A standout event of the season was the Ruby Jubilee Bonspiel, celebrating 40 years of curling in Markdale! This special event brought together curlers from across the community for a day of friendly competition, laughter, and nostalgia. It was a wonderful way to honor the history of curling at our club while looking ahead to the future. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this milestone event such a success!
Glow in the Dark Bonspiel
A true highlight of the season was our Glow in the Dark Curling Bonspiel—a fun and unique event that lit up the ice in a whole new way! Curlers of all skill levels came together to enjoy a night of friendly competition under the black lights, making it one of our most memorable events.
Curling Day in Canada
This year, we proudly took part in Curling Day in Canada, a national celebration of the sport we all love. The day was filled with fun activities, open ice time, and plenty of excitement as we showcased the inclusivity and community spirit of curling. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce new people to the game and celebrate our club’s passion for the sport!
Friday Night Socials Return
Our Friday Night Socials made a comeback this season, offering a casual and welcoming environment for members and guests to enjoy curling in a laid-back setting. It was a great way to bring both experienced players and newcomers together while enjoying some post-game camaraderie.
Looking Ahead
The growth of our curling community has been truly inspiring! With an increase in participation in our leagues and events, as well as new members joining the club, it’s clear that curling continues to be a beloved sport in Markdale. We’ve also seen strong support from the community, with local businesses and organizations helping us make each event a success.
As we move forward, we’re excited to build on this momentum with more events, clinics, and opportunities for both beginners and seasoned curlers to get involved.
