Curling has deep roots in Canadian culture, dating back to the early 1800s when Scottish immigrants brought the sport to our frozen lakes and rivers. Over the years, it has evolved into a national pastime, with clubs and communities embracing the game for its blend of skill, strategy, and camaraderie. Today, Curling Day in Canada serves as an annual celebration of this rich history and the passion Canadians have for the sport.

What is Curling Day in Canada?

Curling Day in Canada is a nationwide event that highlights the sport’s heritage, fosters community spirit, and encourages people of all ages to give curling a try. Hosted annually, this day is about more than just throwing rocks and sweeping ice—it’s about the friendships, traditions, and memories that make curling a beloved pastime in communities across the country.

Why Curling is Special?

Curling is more than just a sport; it’s a community-driven activity that brings people together across generations. Built on camaraderie, sportsmanship, and inclusivity, curling fosters friendships, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging. From casual weekend games to high-stakes national championships, the love of curling runs deep in Canada.

The day kicked off with a pancake breakfast in the morning, bringing together participants and spectators to enjoy a warm meal before hitting the ice. It was a fantastic way to start the celebrations and fuel up for the day’s activities.

This year, Curling Day in Canada also featured an exciting Draw to the Button challenge, where curlers had the chance to win a $5000 grant. We are thrilled to share that our club had three successful draws to the button, achieved by Lorri Zagar, Peter Hahn, and Steve Frankland—an incredible accomplishment that showcases the talent and dedication of our local curlers!

Whether you’re playing, watching, or just celebrating from the sidelines, this day is all about honoring the sport that brings us together.

Happy Curling Day in Canada!
